Get support at the Dawlish Pain Cafe

But wait… what's a Pain Café?

The Dawlish Pain Café is a local peer support group for people with pain. The aim is to create a space (sometimes in-person, sometimes online) for you to meet, learn and share tips and experiences.

You are not alone.

Your Pain Cafe Host Barista

Patricia is centrally involved in the theatre and also a therapist. Kassie and Kevin work for Imagine If.

Pain Cafes are run by ‘baristas’ who are trained as facilitators and come from a variety of backgrounds. Like any good cafe, we hope that you enjoy your visit, and come away feeling refreshed and energised, with a ‘take away’ of skills or new techniques to help you live well with pain.

Pull up a chair, let’s pour you a brew...

  • A warm welcome
  • Nice refreshments (no charge)
  • A chance to meet other cafe users

Time for a caffeine fix - a bold and engergising session

This is where we focus on a monthly topic - developing skills, learning, and engaging in an activity. It may be led by the baristas, or there may be an invited speaker or activity leader. Popular sessions include armchair yoga, a visit from a nutritionist, a session about mindfulness, a discussion about retraining your brain, a cafe user leading us in a craft, discussions about improving your sleep, or even taking part in some creative writing. Each month is different, with the intention of empowering cafe users to build up a bank of ‘tools’ to use to help you overcome your pain with skills not pills.

End on a sweet note

  • Recap and review
  • Something to take away?
  • Connections to boost you through to the next month
  • Many cafes have a WhatsApp group to offer continued support

In the words of one our our cafe users:
"Being with people with similar problems really does help. The group is friendly and welcoming, listening to others who have experienced similar problems to me is excellent - you are not the only one with that particular pain”

We look forward to you joining us.

Tips Jar

Who's invited?
Anyone living with pain in the area. The baristas have been trained in the 10 Footsteps and will decide who to invite. These groups should grow organically by word-of-mouth.
How often do you meet?
We aim to meet at least every couple of months but don't forget there is the Cornwall-wide café too.
Is its free?
Yes! You might want to buy some coffee and a cake though.
My local café has no events
If nothing is available we run an online county-wide café which everyone is welcome to join.
